Managing Asbestos in Buildings
Course description
The amendments to the control of asbestos at work regulation require asbestos contained within buildings to be identified and managed.
Aim and objectives of the course
The course has been developed for managers and others with a responsibility for the managing of asbestos in buildings or who control major works activities with buildings containing asbestos by providing detailed information and guidance about the duty to manage asbestos in non-domestic premises. The duty is regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002.
Course content
- Discuss the hazards of working with or around asbestos and asbestos-containing materials including the ill-health effects.
- Provide information on the law on asbestos and introduce the duty to manage the risk from asbestos in non-domestic premises.
- To work through the logical steps needed to comply with the regulation.
- Practical exercises to show how a management plan can be developed.
- To discuss how to implement the plan.
- To provide information on how the duty will be implemented/enforced.
- To provide information on further sources of guidance.
